What Is Art Wizards?

We are to drawing what phonics is to reading

The overwhelming majority of adults in this country never learned to draw. When asked to draw a house, they draw the same one they drew at age 7. You may know that house. It’s the square one with a door in the middle, a window on each side, two lollipop-looking trees in the yard, and smoke curling out the chimney. These adults were never exposed to the basics of fine art. We have developed a very effective method of teaching these concepts. That’s part of what makes us different.

The Art Wizards curriculum has been designed to teach children the skills of fine art while keeping them excited and encouraged to improve. With our class structure, students can see the progress the make. So they remain enthusiastic and motivated. Using a variety of media, (oil and chalk pastels, watercolor, pencil, charcoal and ink) children learn to see the way that artists do, and have fun with individualized, non-competitive lessons. Artistic skill is the result of knowledge and a lot of practice. Anyone can learn it. However, children are unlikely to develop the ability to draw realistically without an introduction to the skills we teach, and the consistent practice we provide. They will join the millions of adults who believe they can’t draw, and miss out on the wide range of benefits that drawing offers.

Students who are actively involved in the arts are:

  • 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement
  • 3 times more likely to be elected to class office within their schools
  • 4 times more likely to participate in a math and science fair
  • 3 times more likely to win an award for school attendance

And are nearly TWICE as likely to read for pleasure*
